A violent domestic dispute turned into a high-stakes manhunt on New Year’s Day. On January 1, 2026, police in Jincheon, Chungcheongbuk-do, executed an emergency arrest of a Kazakhstani man in his 20s for “Special Robbery.” The suspect, identified only as Mr. A, is accused of storming the home of his former girlfriend—also a Kazakhstani national—in Deoksan-eup at approximately 3:40 p.m. Armed with a blade, he reportedly threatened her life before fleeing with 30 million Korean won in cash.
The victim’s quick call to the authorities triggered a rapid-response operation. By analyzing local CCTV footage, Jincheon police tracked Mr. A’s movements as he fled the city. In just two hours, officers intercepted and apprehended him in the nearby city of Cheongju. While the money was recovered, the investigation is now focused on the exact nature of their relationship and the origin of the 30 million won. Mr. A is currently being held as prosecutors weigh a formal arrest warrant to prevent him from fleeing the country.
