Professional boxer Anthony Joshua has made his first public appearance since a road accident in Nigeria that resulted in the deaths of two of his close friends, according to reports.
The accident occurred during the festive season while Joshua was visiting family in Nigeria. He and his friends were travelling in a Lexus LX570 when the vehicle collided with a stationary lorry on the Lagos Expressway. Nigerian authorities cited high speed as the primary cause of the crash.
Joshua sustained minor injuries and was treated at a hospital in Nigeria before returning to the United Kingdom several days later. The accident claimed the lives of Sina Ghami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele, who were travelling with him.
Following his return to the UK, Joshua shared an Instagram post marking his first public comments on the incident. The images showed him with his mother and relatives of his late friends. In one photo, a woman was holding a portrait of Ghami. Joshua captioned the post with the words, “My Brother’s Keeper.”
According to BBC reports, the remains of Ghami and Ayodele were repatriated to the UK, and their funerals were held earlier on Sunday at a mosque.
Joshua’s post prompted messages of support from fans and followers, many of whom expressed condolences to the families and offered words of encouragement to the boxer.
