Issuers of exchange-traded funds are expanding beyond traditional products, and the Bitwise Crypto Industry Innovators ETF is one of the clearest examples of that shift.
The Bitwise Crypto Industry Innovators ETF (BITQ) gives investors indirect exposure to the cryptocurrency economy by tracking crypto-related companies, not digital assets themselves. The fund has attracted nearly $431 million in assets as investors look for ways to benefit from crypto growth without holding volatile tokens directly.

Unlike spot Bitcoin or Ethereum ETFs, BITQ tracks the Bitwise Crypto Innovators 30 Index, a basket of publicly traded companies tied to crypto infrastructure, trading, custody, and mining. This structure makes the ETF crypto-correlated rather than crypto-backed.
The fund shows strong sensitivity to digital assets. Its correlation to Bitcoin stood at roughly 0.7 at the end of last year, while Ethereum correlation was about 0.63, offering amplified exposure during market swings.
BITQ also stands apart from traditional financial-sector ETFs. More than 40% of its holdings are custody, exchange, and trading firms, led by Coinbase Global as its single largest position. Other holdings include newer financial platforms such as Bullish and Robinhood Markets, adding a growth-oriented tilt.
A major portion of the ETF is allocated to Bitcoin miners, which account for nearly 37% of the portfolio. That exposure carries risk, but the composition is evolving. Several miners in the fund are expanding into artificial intelligence and data-center infrastructure to diversify revenue.
Iren Limited and Terawulf illustrate that transition, leveraging mining infrastructure to support AI workloads. This shift positions parts of the ETF to benefit not only from crypto cycles but also from broader demand for computing capacity.
For investors, the appeal lies in diversified access to the crypto ecosystem without the operational and custody risks of holding tokens. The tradeoff is exposure to equity-market volatility and business execution risk rather than direct price tracking.
The Bitwise Crypto Industry Innovators ETF sits at the intersection of crypto, fintech, and emerging technology, making it a higher-risk but potentially flexible way to gain long-term exposure to the digital asset economy.
