The Israeli military confirmed on Thursday that its forces have successfully assassinated Hussein Mahmoud Marshad al-Jawhari, a high-ranking operative of Iran’s elite Quds Force, during a targeted operation in Lebanon. Al-Jawhari was a prominent figure within the shadowy Unit 840, a specialized cell responsible for planning and executing high-value overseas operations. The strike took place in the Ansariyeh region, located between Sidon and Tyre, marking another significant blow to Iran’s operational infrastructure in the Levant.
According to a formal statement from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), al-Jawhari was a direct asset of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Intelligence officials allege he was instrumental in orchestrating a series of terror activities and sophisticated attacks directed against the State of Israel. His influence reportedly spanned across borders, as he was identified as a primary architect for militant operations originating from both Syrian and Lebanese territories.
The elimination of al-Jawhari is being viewed by military analysts as part of a broader Israeli strategy to dismantle the command-and-control hierarchy of Iran’s proxy networks. Unit 840 has long been a priority target for Israeli intelligence due to its role in recruiting and directing foreign operatives to strike Israeli and Western interests. By removing a key strategist like al-Jawhari, the IDF aims to disrupt the logistical and planning capabilities of the IRGC in the immediate proximity of Israel’s northern border.
While Tehran has yet to issue an official response regarding the loss of its operative, the strike underscores the escalating “shadow war” between Israel and Iran on Lebanese soil. Security forces in the region remain on high alert for potential retaliatory measures as the Israeli military continues its campaign to neutralize IRGC-affiliated threats in the region.
