A monthlong search for a missing South Carolina teenager concluded on Tuesday as authorities confirmed that 16-year-old Mackenzie Dalton has been located safe. The investigation into her disappearance has resulted in the arrest of an 18-year-old man on charges of hindering the police search.

Discovery in Lexington County
The Lexington County Sheriff’s Office announced that Dalton was found within the county on January 6, 2026. Dalton had been the subject of an intensive search since she was last seen leaving her residence in late November. At the time of her disappearance, investigators classified her as an endangered juvenile due to her age and the extended duration of her absence.
Sheriff’s deputies confirmed that the vehicle Dalton used to leave her home, as well as a suitcase she had taken, were recovered during the course of the investigation.
Investigation and Arrest
While Dalton was missing for several weeks, authorities noted there is currently no evidence to suggest she was held against her will. Preliminary reports from investigators previously indicated that the missing 16-year-old South Carolina girl may have been in the company of an acquaintance.
Following her discovery, deputies arrested Mackenzie Keith English Jr., 18, in connection with the case. English faces charges of obstruction of justice. According to the Lexington County Sheriff’s Office, English is accused of providing false information to investigators regarding his contact with Dalton and his knowledge of her location during the monthlong search.

Current Status
Mackenzie Dalton has been reunited with authorities and verified as safe. English is currently being held at the Lexington County Detention Center pending further legal proceedings.
The resolution of this case follows weeks of community concern and law enforcement efforts across the region. Local officials have not released further details regarding the specific location where Dalton was found.
