U.S. President Donald J. Trump has publicly withdrawn an invitation for Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney to join the so-called “Board of Peace,” escalating already tense political messaging between Washington and Ottawa.
In a sharply worded public letter posted to social media, Trump said the Board of Peace was rescinding its invitation for Canada to participate, calling the group “the most prestigious Board of Leaders ever assembled.” No further details were provided about the board’s structure, membership, or mandate.

The message was framed as a formal notice, ending with Trump signing off as President of the United States. The post immediately drew attention due to its unusually direct tone and the lack of prior public discussion about Canada’s potential involvement with the board.
The move comes amid broader friction between the U.S. and Canada over trade, foreign policy alignment, and relations with China. Trump has repeatedly warned Ottawa against deepening economic or strategic ties with Beijing, threatening punitive tariffs and other retaliatory measures.
Canadian officials have not publicly responded to the letter, and it remains unclear whether the Board of Peace is an official governmental body or a political initiative tied directly to Trump.
The public withdrawal signals a further hardening of rhetoric from the White House and adds another flashpoint to an already strained U.S.–Canada relationship.
