Addressing reporters about the granite feature, Trump remarked on the unusual nature of signing a piece destined to be buried beneath the structure, stating he hoped it would hold up well even though nobody would likely ever see it again.
The multimillion-dollar helipad project has been constructed to accommodate the powerful new fleet of VH-92A Marine One helicopters, which generate intense exhaust power that previously caused damage to the traditional White House grass. Funded through contributions associated with manufacturer Sikorsky, the project features a circular layout incorporating a carved granite presidential seal. Recent modifications have also been made to adjust the pad’s grading and appearance on the sloping South Lawn, keeping construction crews busy as the administration pushes to complete the upgrades.
