A major warehouse belonging to Russian online retailer Wildberries was destroyed by fire after a Ukrainian drone attack in Russia’s Tambov region, local authorities said.
The facility had previously been hit in July, when seven people were killed. The latest strike is part of an expanding Ukrainian drone campaign targeting Russian infrastructure far from the front lines.
Ukraine has increasingly used long-range drones to strike Russian oil facilities, logistics hubs, airfields and other infrastructure. Kyiv has claimed that some products sold through Wildberries include equipment and technical components used by Russia’s military, an allegation the company denies.
The Wildberries facility was evacuated following the latest attack. Tambov Governor Yevgeny Pervyshov said the fire destroyed the logistics center and injured two people.
Ukraine expands strikes inside Russia
Ukraine also reported striking a Lukoil refinery in Kstovo, in Russia’s Nizhny Novgorod region. Ukrainian officials said the facility caught fire following the overnight attack.
Russian authorities have repeatedly reported large-scale Ukrainian drone attacks across the country. Russia’s Defense Ministry said its forces shot down 426 Ukrainian drones overnight across 15 regions and Crimea.
The attacks have increasingly disrupted Russian infrastructure and raised security concerns in areas far from the battlefield.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has responded by allowing the state to temporarily take control of critical infrastructure if private owners fail to protect facilities from drone attacks or rebuild damaged sites.
Meanwhile, Russia continues to launch missile and drone strikes against Ukraine. Ukrainian officials said civilians were killed in a strike on a residential building in the Chernihiv region.
