Special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner have arrived in Moscow as part of a renewed diplomatic effort by the United States to broker peace in the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. Following their meetings in the Russian capital, the diplomatic delegation is scheduled to travel to Kyiv for direct discussions with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Speaking from the Oval Office, President Donald Trump confirmed the mission, stating that the envoys are carrying a new proposal aimed at resolving the conflict. “We have an idea for peace,” Trump told reporters, emphasizing the urgency of ending the war as casualties continue to mount on both sides.
The visit marks the first time Witkoff and Kushner have traveled to Kyiv since the administration returned to office. Previous diplomatic momentum had stalled earlier in the year as Washington’s foreign policy focus shifted heavily toward escalations in the Middle East.
President Zelenskyy confirmed preparations for the American delegation’s arrival, noting that Ukraine pledged to facilitate safe travel and suspend long-range strikes for the duration of the diplomatic logistics. Despite the renewed push for negotiations, territorial control over the Donbas region remains a central point of contention between Moscow and Kyiv.
