Former Compton Crips leader Duane “Keffe D” Davis has claimed he is innocent following his conviction in the 1996 drive-by shooting that killed hip-hop legend Tupac Shakur.
Speaking from the Clark County Detention Center in a post-trial interview, the 63-year-old insisted he is a “good person” and expressed confidence that his conviction will be overturned on appeal, citing alleged civil rights violations prior to trial.
A Nevada jury found Davis guilty of first-degree murder with a deadly weapon after brief deliberations following a weeks-long trial in Las Vegas. Prosecutors argued that while Davis did not pull the trigger, he acted as the “shot caller” who procured the firearm and orchestrated the attack in retaliation for a fight involving his nephew, Orlando “Baby Lane” Anderson, at the MGM Grand earlier that evening.
During the trial, the defense team challenged the lack of physical evidence linking Davis to the scene, arguing his past media interviews and memoir statements were embellished accounts intended to generate revenue.
Presiding Judge Carli Kierny is scheduled to sentence Davis on October 13, 2026, where he faces a maximum potential penalty of life in prison.
