US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has expressed public confusion regarding a sudden jump in global oil prices that pushed crude up to $94 per barrel.
Speaking to reporters while discussing financial markets and ongoing efforts by the Treasury Department to bring markets back into equilibrium, Bessent addressed the rapid market shifts. According to the Treasury chief, short-term fluctuations occurring within a narrow 24-hour window largely amount to market noise. However, the sudden movement caught attention as energy costs faced renewed upward pressure.
“Today we saw a sudden increase in oil prices, which I really don’t understand the reason for,” Bessent stated while addressing the media.
The remarks came as financial analysts and government officials closely monitor energy market volatility and economic measures impacting global supplies. Bessent previously noted that administration actions and economic policies are ultimately designed to help bring crude prices down over time. As markets continue to react to shifting geopolitical and financial conditions, administration officials maintain that they are working to stabilize broader economic equilibrium.
